Adaptive learning for the adoption of uses

Adaptive learning is a learning method, which adapts resources according to the activity of each learner. Adaptive learning has its roots in the cognitive psychology of the 1950s. Each learner has his or her own way of memorizing the knowledge he or she has acquired. Therefore, the work programme will propose resources adapted to the learner’s profile. Thus, a group of learners enrolled in the same adaptive learning programme will have a common theoretical basis, but a different and unique application. This method reduces the drop-out rate among learners.

This learning method involves redefining the learner’s profile in real time and updating his or her progress, by determining the learner’s learning profile based on his or her intentions and actions.

There are four essential criteria for getting users to adopt uses through adaptive learning:

  1. Adapt to the learner’s learning pace: by allowing learners to study at their own pace, learning is more effective. Learners will only be able to progress in their journey once each concept has been mastered.
  2. Take into account the level of knowledge: any adaptive learning programme must be able to determine the starting point of learning in the light of the knowledge already acquired and the objectives to be achieved. This prevents the weakest learners from feeling discouraged and the gifted from being bored.
  3. Propose resources to involve the learner: in a digital age where most learners are more than used to new technologies, video games have become more important in the learning process. Adaptive learning programs that use the principle of strategy games help learners to see learning as fun, not laborious.
  4. Analyze learners’ responses: the adaptive learning system continuously interacts with learners as they solve problems, explore new concepts and make decisions. At the same time, it analyses all the data in real time to adapt the pedagogical approach of each user.

Adaptive learning then offers the right lesson, at the right time and at the right level of difficulty for everyone.

 Artificial intelligence in training

AI is a tool at the service of men. However, to reap the benefits of Artificial Intelligence, it is necessary to:

  • Design the contents, the pedagogical paths, so that they are adapted to the treatment of AI and be relevant for learners.
  • Monitor and develop data models.
  • Explore the potential of data sources

This is a unique know-how that now links technology to pedagogy. Adaptive Learning is based on the use of accumulated usage data. At Mandarine, we had to compile the history of uses of training resources and their impacts by type of company, business profile, usage profile and user profile. As this database is constantly being expanded, it is now used by our MOOC Office 365 platform to optimize its recommendations to registered users. Our platform is now a self-learning system.

At the beginning, we offer user companies a data model based on the experience accumulated by Mandarine over the various projects entrusted to us, the initial knowledge base made available is now enriched as it is used in the company and the recommendations are more and more relevant in specific contexts, the higher the volume of consultations, the more the platform’s recommendations are optimized.
